Leather card holders, for men and women
Cards, a few folded notes, and usually nothing more. A card holder is the slim alternative to a classic wallet. With us there are two decisions to make: leather on its own or leather with Merino wool felt, and on the HERFORD also with or without the aluminium card slider.
Two models stand here, in three versions: the HERFORD in full leather, with the slider at 59 € or without it at 57 €, and the KESWICK in leather with Merino wool felt at 39 €. Both are made in Hamburg, and both can be embossed.

A leather card holder or a wallet? The slim calculation
Most people come here because the old wallet has become too thick. So here is the honest comparison first: a card holder is not a smaller wallet, it is a different decision about what you carry at all.

The point about bulging is the one you only understand after a year. A leather pocket with three cards permanently stacked in it stretches and does not go back. This is why the HERFORD with the slider holds the cards in aluminium instead of leather: the metal does not give, and the leather outside keeps its shape.
HERFORD in leather: with or without the card slider
The slider solves a problem that stacked pockets cannot: with five or six cards in the same pocket you always pull out the wrong one. Fanned out, you see them all at once. If you only carry two or three cards anyway, the five leather pockets of the version without the slider suit you better.
The difference in price is two euros, 59 against 57 €. So the decision is not about money but about whether you want a mechanism on your wallet. If you do not, the version without the slider gives you a holder made from a single material, with nothing that could ever jam.
Put the card you need most often right at the back. When the cards fan out it then lies on top and is the fastest one to reach – and just as fast to put away again.
The KESWICK in leather and wool felt, when it should be softer
The KESWICK is the classic version: no mechanism, but a lining in Merino wool felt. It matches the colours of our sleeves in wool felt and leather if you carry both, and it offers the largest surface of the three for an embossing.
Besides the look, the felt has a sober purpose. Cards slide out of a smooth leather pocket by themselves when the holder lies upside down in a bag. Wool felt has grip and keeps them in place without needing a closure. At 39 € the KESWICK is also the most affordable way into this category.
The leather: vegetable-tanned cowhide, just under 2 mm thick
We use full-grain cowhide leather from family-run tanneries in Tuscany, vegetable-tanned and certified by the Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale. The hide arrives just under 2 mm thick and we bring it down to the thickness each part needs. For a card holder it is skived especially far, because otherwise it would be bulky in a trouser pocket.
Full-grain means the surface is not sanded down to look even. Pores, fine veins and small scars stay visible, and the colour deepens over the years. A leather card holder that travels in a trouser pocket every day looks different after two years than on the first day: darker, softer, with a patina. None of our pieces changes as quickly, because none is handled as often. If you want a material that always looks the same, a coated leather is the better choice. We deliberately do the opposite.

A personalised leather card holder: blind, silver or gold embossing
We emboss with heat and pressure on the hot foil press, not with colour that could flake off. On the HERFORD up to six characters are possible, on the KESWICK up to eight. You choose the characters and the type of embossing in the configurator.
- Blind embossing – without colour, only relief. The most restrained version, and it tends to become clearer with the patina rather than weaker.
- Silver – a bright foil that works well on dark brown and black.
- Gold – a warm foil that suits the caramel-coloured light brown particularly well.
The embossing is done by hand. Please allow for that in the delivery time, especially in December. And take a second look at the spelling before you order: what is once in the leather stays there.

Caring for a leather card holder
- In daily use: wipe it with a dry, soft cloth. Usually nothing more is needed.
- Stains: do not scrub. Moisture and grease change the colour at first, and much of it evens out over time.
- Grease and wax: use sparingly. Vegetable-tanned leather takes up care products greedily and darkens as it does.
- The card slider: the aluminium needs no care. If it runs stiffly, a card is usually sitting at an angle.
- The wool felt in the KESWICK: shake it out and brush it, do not wash it.
Dab the leather with a dry cloth, do not rub, and let it dry in the air. Not on a radiator. Shake out and brush the wool felt.
From the raw hide to the last seam
In our own workshop in Hamburg. Splitting, skiving, punching, sewing, embossing, hardware and final inspection all happen here, and have done since 2011, with long-standing partners for single steps.
With a card holder the edge is what counts. It is worked by hand so that the holder does not become bulky in a pocket.
