Microsoft Surface Pro Leather Sleeves & Felt Cases
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, both sleeves are cut for the Surface with the Type Cover attached. The HAMPSHIRE sits more closely, while the ANGUS leaves extra room for accessories.
One. The Surface ANGUS closes its main compartment with one matte silver zip in YKK quality, and it also has a front pocket on the outside. Only the MacBook version of the ANGUS has two zips, where the front pocket is secured as well.
The ANGUS is leather on the outside and has a front pocket for accessories. The HAMPSHIRE is made of Merino wool felt, closes with flat magnets and has the pen holder.
Yes, the CORRIEDALE. It is made for devices from 11 to 16 inch and takes the accessories along as well.
The HAMPSHIRE has its own pen holder: a sewn-on leather patch with a rubber loop. The pen stays in place even when the magnetic hold on the device gives way inside a bag. The ANGUS has no pen holder.
No. The ANGUS is built so that the zip runs above the device without touching it when you open and close the sleeve.
No, and it fits into none of our front pockets. They are cut flat on purpose, because otherwise the sleeve would no longer go into a laptop compartment. In the CORRIEDALE the power adapter travels in the main compartment, next to the device. For a sleeve there are separate bags: the CORRIEDALE XS in wool felt and the LONGFORD in leather.
Full-grain, vegetable-tanned cowhide leather from family-run tanneries in Tuscany, just under 2 mm thick, together with 3 mm Merino wool felt made of 100 % virgin wool, mulesing-free. Everything is made in our own workshop in Hamburg, Germany, and has been since 2011.
Microsoft Surface Pro sleeves in leather and wool felt
Two close-fitting sleeves for the Surface Pro, made from the same materials as our Apple sleeves: the ANGUS in vegetable-tanned leather and the HAMPSHIRE in Merino wool felt with its own holder for the Surface Pen. Both cover the models from Pro 11 down to Pro 6, and both are cut for the device with the Type Cover attached.
The CORRIEDALE joins them when something else travels next to the Surface. There are no more than these three here, and that is intended: for the Surface Pro we build one leather sleeve, one felt sleeve and one bag, instead of six versions of the same idea.

Leather or wool felt? The decision for your Surface Pro
Both are slip-in sleeves, and both fit the same devices. The difference is not the fit but what you want: the tougher material and more protection, or the flatter sleeve with a place for the pen.
| Model | Material | Design | Right for you if | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HAMPSHIRE | Merino wool felt with a leather application | Sleeve with a magnetic closure, front pocket and pen holder | the sleeve should stay flat and the Surface Pen needs a fixed place | 74 € |
| ANGUS | Leather outside, Merino wool felt inside | Sleeve with one YKK zip and a front pocket | you choose leather on purpose and want the best protection | 175 € |
| CORRIEDALE | Merino wool felt with leather side panels | Bag with storage space, magnetic closure and three inner pockets | a laptop, documents or cables travel next to the Surface | from 169 € |
Your device is best protected in the ANGUS: it is the only one with full leather outside and wool felt inside. The leather takes the knock from outside, and the felt absorbs what comes through. The HAMPSHIRE is the flatter of the two and the only one with a place for the pen.
A leather holder of its own for the Surface Pen
The HAMPSHIRE has a sewn-on leather patch with a rubber loop, and the Surface Pen slides into it. It travels in a fixed place instead of lying loose next to the device. The ANGUS has no pen holder.
This sounds like a small detail, and it is the reason why you stop looking for the pen. A Surface Pen that clings magnetically to the edge of the device rarely stays there when you slide the device into a sleeve. It comes off, drops into the backpack and then lies between your keys and your charger. The rubber loop keeps it where you put it.
The leather: vegetable-tanned cowhide, just under 2 mm thick
For the ANGUS, and for the leather parts of HAMPSHIRE and CORRIEDALE, we use full-grain cowhide leather from family-run tanneries in Tuscany, vegetable-tanned. The hide arrives just under 2 mm thick, and we bring it down to the thickness each part needs.
Full-grain means the surface is not sanded down to look even. Pores, fine veins and small scars stay visible, and the colour deepens over the years. A Surface Pro sleeve in leather that goes into a backpack every day looks different after two years than on the first day: darker, softer, with a patina. If you want a material that always looks the same, a coated leather is the better choice. We deliberately do the opposite.
Inside there is 3 mm of Merino wool felt, 100 % virgin wool and mulesing-free. The felt is soft enough not to scratch the display when you slide the device in, and dense enough to absorb knocks instead of passing them on to the corners of the device. Synthetic needle felt cannot do this, because it lacks the density. How we split, skive and emboss the hides is described on our page Leather sleeves for iPad and MacBook.
What fits into the front pocket and what does not
Both sleeves have a pocket at the front, and both are cut flat. What fits is what is flat: a charging cable, an adapter, cards, a thin notepad, a spare Type Cover.
A power adapter does not fit in there, neither in the ANGUS nor in the HAMPSHIRE nor in any other of our models. This is not carelessness but the result of a decision: a sleeve whose front pocket takes a power adapter becomes so bulky at the front that it no longer goes into a laptop compartment. In the CORRIEDALE the power adapter travels in the main compartment, next to the device. For a sleeve, there are separate bags: the CORRIEDALE XS in wool felt and the LONGFORD in leather.
Also for older Surface models: a leather sleeve that stays
A Surface Pro is rarely replaced after two years. This is exactly why both sleeves cover the models back to the Pro 6. People who keep their device for a long time want to protect it at some point, and by then there is hardly anything left in the shops for the older models.
This is the quiet advantage of a slip-in sleeve over a hard shell: it is not tied to a housing shape that nobody makes any more after two generations. As long as the footprint fits, the sleeve fits. And a leather that looks better after five years than at the start outlives two device generations without effort.
Both sleeves are cut for the Surface with the Type Cover attached. The HAMPSHIRE sits more closely, while the ANGUS leaves extra room for accessories in the front pocket.
When the Surface does not travel alone: the bag in leather and wool felt
The CORRIEDALE is the universal bag for 11 to 16 inch. It takes the Surface, a laptop and the accessories together, when you carry more than one device. You will find an overview of all sizes at the laptop bags from 11 to 16 inch, and the matching accessories in the cable pouches.
The difference in one sentence: a sleeve holds the device and nothing else, a bag holds the device and everything that travels with it. If your Surface goes into a backpack that already holds the rest, the sleeve is the right choice, flatter and cheaper.
Caring for a Surface Pro sleeve in leather
- Leather in daily use: wipe it with a dry, soft cloth. Usually nothing more is needed.
- Stains on leather: do not rub hard. Moisture and grease change the colour at first, and much of it evens out over time.
- Wool felt: shake it out, brush it or use the upholstery nozzle of a vacuum cleaner. Do not wash it.
- The zip: if it runs stiffly, clean the teeth dry. No oil, because it attracts dust and stains the leather.
- Sunlight: long one-sided sunlight makes leather darken unevenly.
Dab the leather with a dry cloth, do not rub, and let it dry in the air. Not on a radiator. Shake out and brush the wool felt.
From the raw hide to the last seam
In our own workshop in Hamburg. Splitting, skiving, punching, sewing, embossing, hardware and final inspection all happen here, and have done since 2011, with long-standing partners for single steps.
Each device size gets its own pattern. This is why a Surface sleeve does not simply fit because it is roughly the same size.
