The CORRIEDALE S. It measures 26.5 × 19.5 cm inside and is therefore the closest fit of the three. It is also a bag with storage space, so the device does not sit in there on its own.
The iPad 5th and 6th generation, the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Pro 9.7". All of them measure 24.0 × 17.0 cm.
Because the numbers no longer justify it. We work by hand in small batches, and a pattern of its own only pays off from a certain quantity. We would rather tell you this openly than promise a fit that does not exist.
It goes in, but with around three centimetres of play. Our patterns are cut for 11 inches together with a keyboard. With a Smart Cover or a keyboard case your iPad sits well; without any accessory it lies loosely.
We make the SUFFOLK for the iPad 11" and from MacBook 13" upwards. There is no size among them that suits a 9.7-inch iPad, which is why it is not listed on this page.
Choose iPad Pro / Air 11". We no longer make a dedicated 9.7-inch pattern.
In our own workshop in Hamburg. Cutting, sewing and final inspection all happen here, since 2011. The leather is vegetable-tanned cowhide from Tuscany, the Merino wool felt is mulesing-free.
iPad 6th generation leather sleeve – handmade in Hamburg since 2011
The iPad 6th generation from 2018 and the iPad 5 from 2017 are still in daily use for many people. We no longer make a dedicated pattern for them, but three of our 11-inch models will take them. How well that fits, we tell you openly here instead of glossing over it.

Does a leather sleeve fit the iPad 9.7-inch? An honest answer
With a Smart Cover or a keyboard case your iPad sits well. Without any accessory it lies loosely in the sleeve and can move while you carry it. We normally cut close – here we do not, and you should know that beforehand.

When ordering, choose the size iPad Pro / Air 11-inch. At 26.5 × 19.5 cm the CORRIEDALE S is the closest fit of the three and therefore the best choice for a 9.7-inch iPad.

The three models in leather and wool felt for your iPad 9.7-inch
- CORRIEDALE S – the closest pattern and a bag with storage space as well. The best choice for a 9.7-inch iPad.
- ANGUS – full leather outside, wool felt inside, two zips.
- HAMPSHIRE – wool felt with a leather patch, flat magnets and a front pocket.
We do not offer the SUFFOLK for your device: it comes in iPad 11-inch and from MacBook 13-inch upwards, and none of those sizes suits a 9.7-inch iPad.
The leather: vegetable-tanned cowhide, just under 2 mm thick
For the ANGUS and for the leather patches of HAMPSHIRE and CORRIEDALE we use full-grain leather from family-run tanneries in Tuscany, vegetable-tanned. The hide reaches us just under 2 mm thick and we bring it down to the thickness each part needs.
Full-grain means the surface is not sanded for an even look. Pores, fine veins and small scars stay visible, and the colour deepens over the years. An iPad 9.7-inch leather sleeve that goes into a backpack every day looks different after two years than on day one: darker, softer, with a patina. If you want a material that always looks the same, a coated leather suits you better. We deliberately do the opposite.
Inside there are 3 mm of Merino wool felt. The felt is soft enough not to scratch the display as you slide the device in, and dense enough to absorb knocks instead of passing them on to the corners of the iPad. Your device is best protected in the ANGUS: it is the only model with full leather outside and wool felt inside.
Why we put it this way
We could simply write that it fits. But a sleeve in which the device moves around is one you send back – and then neither of us has gained anything. That is why the number is stated above.

From the raw hide to the last seam
Splitting, skiving, punching, sewing, embossing, fittings and final inspection all happen in our own workshop in Hamburg, since 2011.
A slip-in sleeve has to sit tightly without jamming. That tolerance cannot be bought in, it is created at the cutting stage. This is why we cut a separate pattern for each device size instead of one universal cut.
