Frequently Asked Questions

Because the outer dimensions are identical: 78 mm wide, 163,4 mm tall, 8,75 mm deep on both devices.

By Apple's figures, 6,1 mm in width and 13,4 mm in height, at the same depth. Two widths mean two sizes, so pick the right one.

Dab moisture rather than rubbing it, dry in the air, never on a radiator. Gently remove surface dirt from the wool felt with a soft brush. The details are under Material & Care.

KINGSTON in the wide fit. KIRKBY and SHETLAND are deliberately too narrow for that.

Yes, CHESTER is MagSafe compatible. Wireless charging works with the case on.

100% Merino wool felt, mulesing-free, made in Germany.

Yes. You pick the same size as for the iPhone 17 Pro Max; the table on this page says which one that is for each case.

Yes. The CHESTER sits against the housing to the millimetre. The iPhone 18 Pro Max / 17 Pro Max size fits.

Narrow is for the bare device. The wide fit accommodates your iPhone with a thin clear case or leather case. A smooth surface makes insertion easier. Rough silicone cases do not slide easily into the sleeve. Only the KINGSTON comes in both widths.

KIRKBY and SHETLAND are cut for the bare device. KINGSTON comes in a narrow fit for that.

CHESTER. The hardcase sits directly on the device and stays on while you use it. The other three are sleeves you take the iPhone out of.

Vegetable-tanned leather. On KIRKBY and on the leather covering of the CHESTER it is Italian leather. It is a natural material and develops its own patina with use.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is a large phone. That is exactly why a case should not add unnecessary bulk. We offer four ways to protect it: a hardcase that stays on the device, and three sleeves in leather and Merino wool felt that only hold it in transit.

Which one is right for you depends less on which looks best in a product photo. What matters is how you use and carry your iPhone day to day. There is a short decision guide further down.

Which size to choose for the iPhone 18 Pro Max

The size selector on the product page is named by device group. For the iPhone 18 Pro Max, pick these entries:

Which case suits you?

Four designs does not mean four near-identical cases. The concepts differ on purpose, and that difference decides the purchase.

With a case or without?

This is the question the choice hangs on. Many sleeves try to fit every combination at once. That sounds practical and leads to play or to too much material.

We take the opposite route. KIRKBY and SHETLAND are cut narrow and made for the iPhone without an additional case. The device sits protected, with no room set aside for a second shell. If you already use a thin case and do not want to peel it off every time, KINGSTON in the wide fit is the right way. And if you do not want a sleeve at all, but protection that stays on the device, CHESTER is the concept that fits.

Protection for a large iPhone, without making it larger

Size plays its own role on the Pro Max. A large display is comfortable for reading, taking photos and navigating. In a jacket pocket, every extra millimetre makes itself felt faster.

So we do not build as many layers as possible around the device. Good protection does not automatically mean thick. What matters more is that material sits where it does something. A sleeve works above all in a backpack or a bag. The moment you take the iPhone out, you are holding the device itself again, not a second shell around it.

Leather and wool felt

The leather is vegetable-tanned, a traditional process using plant-based tanning agents, and the result is not a uniform material that still looks like day one after years. Natural leather changes: it takes on marks, darkens where it is handled most and develops a patina. On something you pick up every day, that produces a surface over time that no second piece has in quite the same way.

The felt is 100% Merino wool felt, mulesing-free and made in Germany. It feels soft and is still stable enough to hold a phone reliably. A clear shape on the outside, a soft bed on the inside; for a case the device leaves and re-enters every day, that is the sensible division.

On colours: light leather shows patina and signs of use more clearly and takes on its own character faster. Dark brown stays quieter. Black is the most restrained choice.

A fit, not a universal size

A case only works well when it fits the device. A sleeve that is too wide lets the iPhone move, one that is too tight becomes a nuisance, and one meant for devices both with and without a case has to compromise somewhere. So we keep the variants apart: KIRKBY and SHETLAND for the iPhone without an additional case, KINGSTON in either narrow or wide, CHESTER directly on the device. Which size that is for each case is in the table further up.

Decision guide

Which case should you pick?

If you want to decide quickly, one question is enough: should the case stay on the iPhone permanently, or only be there when the device is not in your hand?

The case with the most features does not win. The one whose concept matches how you use the phone does.

Made for everyday use

Pack & Smooch has been developing accessories for Apple devices since 2011, much of it made in small runs in Hamburg. We are not interested in adding features every year. A good case should protect, be pleasant to use, last a long time – and step back behind the device it was built for. On the iPhone 18 Pro Max that matters especially: the phone brings enough size of its own, and the case does not need to make more of it.

The material details for each item are listed under Material & Care. All designs compared, with videos and features, are in the iPhone overview.
