Leather Laptop Bags 11 to 16 inch
Frequently Asked Questions
Size S holds devices up to 11 inch (inside 26,5 × 19,5 cm), M up to 14 inch (31,7 × 22,4 cm), L up to 16 inch (36,5 × 25,4 cm). Measure your device together with everything that stays on it permanently, and compare it with the inside dimension. If in doubt, take the larger size: the felt fills up a little air, while too tight stays too tight.
No. The front pocket is flat and made for a ticket, a card, a cable or a thin notepad. The power adapter goes into the main compartment, next to the device, separated by the loose felt layer. A power adapter fits into none of our front pockets, and not into the one on the CORRIEDALE either.
A zip runs exactly along the line where the display sits, and guides metal past the device every time you close it. The magnetic buttons hold from the surface, open with one hand and close again by themselves.
Yes, that is the purpose of the bag. A laptop and an iPad, or a laptop and a notebook, lie next to each other in the main compartment, separated by the loose felt layer. The folded side panels open up when more has to go in, and stay flat when the bag only carries the device.
Wipe the leather dry, and use a leather balm sparingly if needed. Shake out or brush the felt, do not wash it. Dab moisture instead of rubbing it, and let the bag dry at room temperature, not on a radiator.
One: the CORRIEDALE, in three sizes from 11 to 16 inch and two colours. We deliberately carry only one bag model instead of placing several similar ones side by side. If you do not need storage space, the slim sleeves SUFFOLK, HAMPSHIRE and ANGUS are the better answer.
Yes. What matters are the outside dimensions of your device, not the brand name. Windows ultrabooks, Surface, Chromebooks and other notebooks fit as long as they stay within the inside dimension of the size. If you are not sure, send us the dimensions and we will tell you which size fits.
It lies between the laptop and the accessories, so that plugs and adapters never meet the housing. In the same way it separates two devices, for example a laptop and an iPad. If you do not need it, take it out and gain space. Taken out, it works as a mat when you are travelling.
Outside there is 3 mm Merino wool felt made of 100 % virgin wool, mulesing-free, with side panels in vegetable-tanned cowhide leather from Tuscany, just under 2 mm thick. The felt cushions, and the leather sits where the bag is stressed in daily use.
In our own workshop in Hamburg, Germany. Cutting, sewing, embossing, hardware and final inspection happen here, and have done since 2011. The leather is vegetable-tanned and comes from family-run tanneries in Tuscany.
The laptop bag in leather and wool felt: the CORRIEDALE
This collection has exactly one product, and there is a reason for that. We do not build six laptop bags for you to choose between. We build one, the CORRIEDALE, in three sizes from 11 to 16 inch. Everything below describes this one model: what it is made for, what fits inside, and when something else from our range suits you better.
The CORRIEDALE is a laptop bag in Merino wool felt with leather side panels. The felt holds the device, and the vegetable-tanned leather sits on the sides, where a bag takes the most wear in daily use. It has a magnetic closure, a front pocket, three inner pockets and a pen holder. It is made in our own workshop in Hamburg, Germany, and has been since 2011.
Who this leather laptop bag is made for
A laptop bag is not the same as a laptop sleeve. A sleeve holds the device and nothing else. A bag holds the device and everything that travels with it. That is the line along which you decide.
The CORRIEDALE is built for you if one of these sentences is true for you:
- You carry two devices. A laptop and an iPad, or a laptop and a notebook. Both lie separately, without touching each other.
- Your accessories travel with you. A charging cable, a mouse, an adapter, a pen. In a backpack these lie around loose and scrape against the housing. Here every part has its place.
- You want to leave the house without a backpack. The bag is built to be carried on its own, into a meeting, to a café, onto a train.
- You commute. A device that is packed and unpacked every day needs more than one layer of fabric, but it does not need armour.
And just as honestly: if your laptop stays in a backpack all day and you carry no accessories, the CORRIEDALE is more bag than you need. In that case read the section further down about the slim sleeves.
Three sizes: which laptop bag fits your device
The CORRIEDALE comes in S, M and L. The sizes are sorted by screen diagonal, because that is how people search. What you should rely on, however, are the inside dimensions, because two devices with the same inch number can have different widths.
| Size | Fits up to | Typical devices | Right for you if | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | 11 inch | iPad Air 11 and iPad Pro 11, also with a keyboard, small notebooks | you mainly carry a tablet and some accessories with it | 169 € |
| M | 14 inch | MacBook Air 13, MacBook Pro 14, iPad Pro 13, 13 to 14 inch notebooks | you have the most common format and want the bag to stay compact | 169 € |
| L | 16 inch | MacBook Pro 16, large Windows notebooks | you carry a large device or take documents as well | 179 € |
Both colours are available in all three sizes: light grey and light brown, and dark grey and dark brown. The first part describes the wool felt, the second the leather.
If in doubt, take the larger size. The felt gives a little and fills up air. Too tight, on the other hand, stays too tight, especially when a cover or a keyboard stays on the device.
The inside dimensions of the laptop bag in centimetres
We measure the finished piece, not the drawing. Measure your device together with everything that stays on it permanently, and compare it with the row.
| CORRIEDALE | fits up to | Inside dimension |
|---|---|---|
| S | 11 inch | 26,5 × 19,5 cm |
| M | 14 inch | 31,7 × 22,4 cm |
| L | 16 inch | 36,5 × 25,4 cm |
If it fits on paper, it fits in reality. We cut closely, but not too closely. Not sure about a non-Apple device? Send us the outside dimensions and we will tell you which size fits.
What fits into the laptop bag in leather and felt
This is where too much is often promised. So here it is, compartment by compartment.
The main compartment
It holds the laptop, and a second flat device or a notebook fits next to it. The side panels are folded so that they open up when more has to go in, and stay flat when the bag only carries the device. The bag grows with what is inside instead of being permanently bulky. The power adapter also has its place here, next to the device, and not in the front pocket.
The loose felt layer
A second layer of Merino wool felt comes with the bag and is not sewn in. You place it between the laptop and the accessories, and then plugs and adapters never meet the housing. If you do not need it, take it out and gain space. Taken out, it works as a mat when the table in a café is cold or rough.
The front pocket
At the front there is a flat pocket for everything you need quickly: a ticket, a card, a cable, a thin notepad. It is deliberately kept flat so that the bag does not become bulky at the front. A power adapter does not fit in there, neither in the CORRIEDALE nor in any other of our models. Anyone who claims otherwise has not tried it.
Three inner pockets and the pen holder
Inside there are three compartments, for example for a charging cable, a mouse or a smartphone. There is also a holder for a pen or an Apple Pencil. It sounds like a small thing, and it is the reason why you stop looking for the pen.
Merino wool felt and leather: the material of the laptop bag
The wool felt is made of 100 % Merino virgin wool, mulesing-free, and is 3 mm thick. Felt is not a compromise material but the better one for this purpose: it absorbs knocks instead of passing them on, it takes up moisture without feeling wet, and it does not scratch the housing. Synthetic needle felt cannot do this, because it lacks the density.
The leather on the side panels is full-grain cowhide from family-run tanneries in Tuscany, vegetable-tanned and just under 2 mm thick. It sits exactly where a bag is stressed when you reach into it, put it down and carry it. Full-grain means that pores, fine veins and small scars stay visible, and that the colour deepens over the years. A leather laptop bag that is used every day looks different after two years than on the first day, and that is intended.
How we split, skive and emboss the hides is described in detail on our page Leather sleeves for iPad and MacBook.
Why the laptop bag has a magnetic closure
Two magnetic buttons close the front. There is no zip, and that is a deliberate decision. A zip runs exactly along the line where the display sits. Every time you close it, you guide metal past the device. Magnets do not do this; they hold from the surface.
Then there is daily use: a bag that you open twenty times a day at your desk should open with one hand. The magnet gives way when you pull, and closes by itself when you let go.
If you do not need a laptop bag, but a sleeve
Not everyone needs storage space. If your device goes into a backpack that already holds everything else, a slim sleeve is the better choice, cheaper and flatter. We build three of them:
- SUFFOLK, from 59 €. Pure Merino wool felt with a leather patch, no front pocket. The slimmest option.
- HAMPSHIRE, from 76 €. Wool felt with a leather patch, a magnetic closure and a front pocket for a cable and a card.
- ANGUS, from 168 €. Full leather outside, wool felt inside, two zips. For everyone who chooses leather on purpose.
You will find all three together under MacBook sleeves and bags. For Surface and other notebooks there is the overview Surface and laptop sleeves. If you mainly carry a tablet, the way leads to the iPad sleeves and bags.
Caring for the laptop bag in leather and wool felt
- Leather in daily use: wipe it with a dry, soft cloth. Usually nothing more is needed. Use a leather balm sparingly if required.
- Wool felt: shake it out, brush it or use the upholstery nozzle of a vacuum cleaner. Do not wash it.
- After rain: dab it first, do not rub. Then let it dry at room temperature, not on a radiator.
- Stains on leather: do not rub hard. Moisture and grease change the colour at first, and much of it evens out over time.
- Sunlight: long one-sided sunlight makes leather darken unevenly. A place near a window is not a problem, months in the midday sun are.
Every leather laptop bag is made in Hamburg
Cutting, sewing, embossing, hardware and final inspection all happen in our own workshop in Hamburg, and have done since 2011, with long-standing partners for single steps.
This is why we can say which layer of the hide was used, how it was tanned and where it comes from. And this is why there are three sizes instead of one universal bag that everything fits into more or less.
