A reusable vacuum film clings firmly yet gently to the smooth back and comes off whenever you want it to. The leather pad is vegetable-tanned Bavarian leather, and it rotates a full 360°.
Its special trick is the fold. Attach the adjustable Merino wool felt hand strap, fold it down, and the weight spreads across your palm instead of hanging from your fingertips — for reading, presenting or working while standing. Folded the other way, the same strap props the iPad up as a stand. And the integrated holder keeps your Apple Pencil right where it belongs.

Can you hold an iPad comfortably with one hand?

With your bare hand, only for a short while. The smooth back offers no grip, the entire weight hangs from your fingertips, and your wrist bends away. Holding a tablet one-handed in comfort, for any length of time, really only works with a hand strap on the back: your hand slides under the strap, the weight spreads across your palm, and your fingers no longer have to clamp.

That is exactly what the TABSTRAP is made for. The adjustable Merino wool felt hand strap sits around your hand and makes longer holding possible – when reading, presenting, reading aloud or working while standing. Folded down, the same strap doubles as a stand to prop the iPad up.

What is an iPad hand holder and how does it work?

An iPad hand holder is a grip that attaches to the back of the tablet so your hand carries the weight instead of your fingertips. Most designs use a strap you slide your hand under, which spreads the load across the palm and lets you hold the device one-handed for far longer than an unaided grip allows.

The TABSTRAP works this way, with two differences: it attaches with a reusable vacuum film rather than adhesive, so it leaves no residue, and the strap folds down into a stand when you set the iPad on a table.

Does the TABSTRAP fit other tablets too?

It is designed and tested for iPads up to 11 inches. The vacuum film will in principle hold on any smooth, flat back, so other tablets of comparable size and weight generally work as well. We have only officially tested it on iPads.

Rough or textured surfaces are not suitable, nor are devices considerably larger and heavier than an 11-inch iPad.

Which iPad models does the TABSTRAP fit?

The TABSTRAP is designed and tested for iPads up to 11 inches. It fits many iPad, iPad Air and iPad Pro models from 9.7″ to 11″.

For the large 12.9″ and 13″ models we don't recommend it, as their size and weight put considerably more strain on your hand and on the holder.

Does the vacuum film really leave no residue?

Yes. The TABSTRAP holds via a reusable vacuum film – with no adhesive at all. The leather pad can be peeled off and repositioned when needed, without leaving any glue residue on your iPad.

The grip is made for permanent use. Many users leave the TABSTRAP on their iPad for a long time. If you do want to remove or reattach the leather pad later – for example because you occasionally use a keyboard case – the vacuum film and the iPad's back should be clean, grease-free and dust-free before reattaching.

Glass cleaner and a clean cloth work well for this. In everyday use, though, the TABSTRAP is intended to be attached carefully once and then used permanently.

How do I attach the TABSTRAP correctly?

First clean the back of your iPad and the vacuum film of the leather pad. Glass cleaner and a clean household cloth work best, so both surfaces are grease-free and dust-free.

Then position the leather pad on the back of the iPad. Press the air out with light pressure, from the centre outwards to the edges in a star pattern. Press the pad down all around and let it rest briefly so the grip can build up fully.

Before every use, please check that the leather pad and the magnetic hand strap sit correctly – especially if you have removed or repositioned the TABSTRAP beforehand.

Does the TABSTRAP work with an iPad case?

The TABSTRAP holds best directly on the smooth back of the iPad.

It also works with front-only covers like the Apple Smart Cover, as long as the back of the iPad stays exposed. Not suitable are keyboard cases, Smart Keyboards or cases that fully enclose the back. On rough or textured surfaces the vacuum film cannot hold reliably.

If you regularly switch between the TABSTRAP and a keyboard case, plan to reattach the leather pad cleanly and carefully each time. The TABSTRAP isn't meant as a daily quick-swap adapter, but as a slim holder for anyone who mostly uses their iPad without an additional case.
