Frequently Asked Questions
Up to ten characters on the ELLON and up to three on the KINGSLEY. The FESTMOKER and the AirTag case can be personalised as well; the exact number of characters is on each product page. The DEVON and the SELBY cannot be personalised.
It needs a hole diameter of at least 4 mm. Very small holes do not fit.
In the DEVON yes, it has its own compartment for it. The leather is deep-drawn, the AirTag sits in a recess and does not rattle along. As an alternative, the AirTag case in leather holds the tracker completely and hangs on a suitcase, a backpack or a bag by its D-ring.
No. Neither with the case nor with the DEVON. You buy the Apple AirTag separately.
On the matt black D-ring of the DEVON. That is exactly what it is there for, because a car key does not lie flat in the stack.
In daily use a dry, soft cloth is enough. After it gets wet, dab it, do not rub, and let it dry in the air at room temperature, not on a radiator. Use grease and wax sparingly: vegetable-tanned leather takes in care products greedily and darkens as it does. Wool felt is shaken out and brushed, not washed.
Three: blind without colour, in silver and in gold. We make it as a hot-foil embossing, that is with heat and pressure on the hot-foil press. The name sits in the leather, not on it, and therefore cannot flake off. Silver carries well on dark brown and black, gold suits the light brown leather.
Like a pocket knife: the keys sit on a stainless steel screw system with an extension bar and fold out one by one. Spacer rings let you set how tightly the stack sits.
Yes. The AirTag case closes with a YKK press stud. You open it, take the AirTag out and close it again.
With the SELBY, the ELLON and the FESTMOKER yes. The DEVON and the AirTag case have a D-ring instead.
Yes. Every keychain lies in a fine lidded gift box with a silver ribbon stretched diagonally across it. We emboss the silver logo on it ourselves, with heat and pressure.
No. The SELBY is our only keychain made of 100 % Merino wool felt, combined with a leather element. If you want leather, take the ELLON.
Keychains and key cases in leather, with your name on them
The first question is never the material, it is the number. If you carry two keys, you need a fob. If you carry seven, you need a case. And if an AirTag has to go somewhere, you need one of the two solutions for that. So the table comes first here, and the leather after it.
How many keys fit where
| Model | Keys | AirTag | Ring included | Embossing | Material |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ELLON | a few | – | ✓ | up to 10 characters | Leather, 2 mm |
| SELBY | a few | – | ✓ | – | Wool felt and leather |
| FESTMOKER | up to 6 | – | ✓ | possible | Leather |
| DEVON | up to 9 | own compartment | D-ring | – | Leather |
| KINGSLEY | 5 or 10 | – | – | up to 3 characters | Leather |
| AirTag case | – | holds it completely | D-ring | ✓ | Leather |
The KINGSLEY comes in two sizes, for five or for ten keys, and takes keys with a hole diameter from 4 mm upwards. With the DEVON you decide the number yourself, because the system is built from spacer rings.
Every keychain arrives in a fine lidded gift box with a silver ribbon stretched diagonally across it. We emboss the silver logo on it ourselves, here, with heat and pressure on the hot-foil press. There is nothing left for you to wrap.
Loose fob, key case or organizer in leather? The real decision
All six models hold keys together, but they solve different problems. A fob hangs on the ring and leaves the keys free: good when there are only a few of them and one should carry a name. A case wraps the leather around the bunch and turns the pile into a flat package: good when it rattles or presses in your trouser pocket. An organizer holds the keys on a screw system, and they fold out one by one like the blades of a pocket knife: good when there are many of them and you keep searching for the right one.
| Model | Material | For how many keys | Can be embossed | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SELBY | Merino wool felt with leather | a few, on the key ring | no | 19 € |
| ELLON | Leather, 2 mm thick | a few, on the key ring | up to 10 characters | 29 € |
| AirTag case | Leather | none, it holds the AirTag | possible | 39 € |
| FESTMOKER | Leather | up to 6 | possible | 39 € |
| KINGSLEY | Leather | 5 (S) or 10 (L) | up to 3 characters | 44 € |
| DEVON | Leather | up to 9, plus an AirTag compartment | no | 59 € |
The SELBY is the only model made of Merino wool felt, combined with leather. All the others are leather throughout. Where it says “possible”, you will find the exact number of characters on the product page.
AirTag keychains in leather: two ways
The AirTag case in leather is the answer for everyone who wants to hang the tracker on something other than the key ring: on a suitcase, a backpack, a dog lead. The reinforced inner side keeps the AirTag in place, the leather lets the signal through, and it also fits with the usual protective films. The DEVON, on the other hand, is made for the key ring itself, with the AirTag compartment as part of the system.
Can you get to the battery?
Yes. The case closes with a YKK press stud that you can open and close again safely. You can take the AirTag out at any time, to change the battery or to hang it on something else.
An Apple AirTag is not included with either model.
The DEVON: a key organizer in leather with an AirTag compartment
The DEVON works like a pocket knife: the keys sit on a stainless steel screw system with an extension bar and fold out one by one instead of rattling on a ring. If the stack sits too loose or too tight, you add a spacer ring or take one away.
The leather for the AirTag compartment is deep-drawn, which means it is shaped under pressure, rather than the AirTag simply being clamped between two layers. That is why it sits firmly.
Leather key cases for men: KINGSLEY and FESTMOKER
Both turn the rattling pile into something flat that fits into a trouser pocket. The difference lies in the number and in the closure: the KINGSLEY holds the keys inside, the FESTMOKER holds them on the ring and folds the leather around them. For the KINGSLEY the keys need a hole diameter of at least 4 mm.
The FESTMOKER comes in three colours: light brown, dark brown and black. It is deliberately cut slim and is therefore not made for modern remote and folding car keys. Those belong on the D-ring of the DEVON. The FESTMOKER closes with quality YKK press studs, and the KINGSLEY with a press stud as well.
ELLON in leather and SELBY in wool felt, when there are only a few keys
The key ring is included with the SELBY, the ELLON and the FESTMOKER. You can use them straight away and do not have to buy anything else. The ELLON is cut from leather 2 mm thick and becomes softer over the years.
One note for the sake of clarity: the SELBY is our only keychain made of 100 % Merino wool felt, combined with a leather element. Not a synthetic needle felt, but real virgin wool, mulesing-free. It is the lightest and quietest one in the range, and at 19 € the least expensive. It is expressly not a leather fob. If you want leather, take the ELLON at 29 €.
Leather keychains with engraving, personalised with a name
We make the engraving as a hot-foil embossing: heat and pressure form the name into the leather, on the hot-foil press. Either blind without colour, in silver or in gold. Nothing is printed on, so nothing can flake off.
- Blind embossing – without colour, relief only. The most restrained version, and it tends to become clearer rather than fainter as the patina builds.
- Silver – a light foil that carries well on dark brown and black.
- Gold – a warm foil that suits the caramel-coloured light brown particularly well.
| Model | Characters | Version |
|---|---|---|
| ELLON | up to 10 | blind, silver, gold |
| KINGSLEY | up to 3 | see the product page |
| FESTMOKER | possible | see the product page |
| AirTag case | possible | see the product page |
The DEVON and the SELBY cannot be personalised. The embossing is done by hand, and that takes time – please allow for it in the delivery time, especially in December. And take a second look at the spelling before you order: what is once in the leather stays there.
The leather: vegetable-tanned cowhide, just under 2 mm thick
We use full-grain real leather from family-run tanneries in Tuscany, vegetable-tanned (Pelle Conciata Al Vegetale In Toscana). The hide reaches us just under 2 mm thick and we bring it down to the thickness each part needs.
Full-grain means the surface is not sanded down to look even. Pores, fine veins and small scars stay visible, and the colour deepens over the years. A keychain in leather that goes into a trouser pocket every day looks different after two years than on the first day: darker, softer, with a patina. If you are looking for a material that always looks the same, a coated leather is the better choice. We deliberately do the opposite.
There is a second, practical reason for leather: a bunch of keys is a bundle of sharp metal edges that rubs against your phone, your glasses and your pocket all day long. Leather is soft enough to absorb that and tough enough to take it for years. Plastic manages one or the other, rarely both.
What is not leather: press studs, rings, screws
A keychain is used every day, often several times. So it is not the leather alone that decides, but also what hangs from it.
- PRYM ring-spring press stud on the ELLON. Extra strong, so the fob also holds on a belt loop.
- YKK press studs on the FESTMOKER and on the AirTag case. Easy to open, safe to close.
- Stainless steel screws with an extension bar in the DEVON, plus white spacer rings and two black leather rings on the outside. That lets you readjust the stack instead of replacing it.
- Solid key rings with the SELBY, the ELLON and the FESTMOKER. The DEVON and the AirTag case have a D-ring instead.
Leather keychains as a gift: gift-ready in a box
This category is our strongest gift shelf, and there are three reasons for that. The price sits between 19 and 59 €, which is the range in which you can also find something for colleagues, godparents and brothers-in-law. The size always fits, unlike with clothing. And on request there is a name in the leather, which turns an accessory into a personal piece.
Everything is already packed: a lidded gift box, a silver ribbon diagonally across it, and the silver logo that we emboss ourselves. There is nothing left for you to wrap, not even on 23 December. If you would like to browse further, Gifts in leather holds the rest of the range, and for the hallway there is the CORBY key tray in wool felt and leather at 44 €.
For companies we make the same pieces in series as well, embossed with a name or a logo: Employee gifts.
Caring for a leather keychain
- In daily use: wipe it with a dry, soft cloth. Usually nothing more is needed.
- Stains: do not rub hard. Moisture and grease change the colour at first, and much of it evens out over time.
- Grease and wax: use them sparingly. Vegetable-tanned leather takes in care products greedily and darkens as it does.
- Wool felt on the SELBY: shake it out and brush it, do not wash it.
Dab the leather with a dry cloth, do not rub, and let it dry in the air. Not on a radiator. Shake out and brush the wool felt.
From the raw hide to the last stitch
In our own workshop in Hamburg. Splitting, skiving, punching, sewing, embossing, hardware and final inspection all happen here – since 2011, with long-standing partners for single steps.
A keychain is used every day. So it is not the leather alone that decides, but also what hangs from it: press studs by YKK and PRYM, screws in stainless steel.
