iPhone 18 Pro case: what changes, and which one fits
Apple shows the new models on 9 September, pre-orders open on 11 September, and shipping starts on 18 September. Unlike previous years, only two devices arrive in September: iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The plain iPhone 18, the 18e and the Air are expected in spring 2027.
We have been sewing iPhone cases in Hamburg since 2011. That is why a new model interests us for something other than camera megapixels: the outer dimensions, the camera plateau and the buttons. What is known is below, and where something is a rumour, we say so.
What is expected on 9 September
| iPhone 18 Pro | iPhone 18 Pro Max | |
|---|---|---|
| Announcement | 9 September 2026 | 9 September 2026 |
| Shipping | from 18 September | from 18 September |
| Display | 6.3 inch expected, one source says 6.7 | 6.9 inch expected |
| Main camera | 48 MP | 48 MP, variable aperture |
| Camera plateau | possibly thicker | possibly thicker |
| Price | around 1,399 to 1,599 euro expected | above that |
The figures come from supplier reports and leakers. We list them because they affect manufacturing, not because we consider them confirmed. Where sources disagree, we print both numbers instead of picking one.
What actually matters for a case
Three things, and none of them is camera resolution.
1. The outer dimensions
A stitched leather case has no tolerance to spare. On a silicone case the material forgives half a millimetre; on leather over a felt lining it does not. Too tight and the device is hard to slide in. Too loose and it slips.
If the Pro stays at 6.3 inches, the footprint barely changes and cases for the 17 Pro still fit. If it grows to 6.7 inches, it is a new size and a new pattern. This is exactly where the sources disagree, which is why nobody serious will tell you before 9 September which case fits.
2. The camera plateau
Several reports expect a thicker plateau. For us that is the most important line in the whole rumour.
The cutout has to follow that height. Too shallow and the case rests on the plateau instead of on the housing, leaving the device sitting at an angle. Too large and the edge looks frayed. You will not see it in any product photo – you notice it the first time you slide the device in, and by then the case is bought.
3. Camera Control
It is not a button but a touch-sensitive surface. Ordinary leather over it blocks it, even thin leather. There are exactly two solutions, and both exist on the market:
- An open cutout. The surface stays exposed and operation is unchanged. Cheap and reliable, but it creates an edge your finger can catch on, and dust can work its way into the cutout.
- Sapphire crystal with a conductive layer. The surface is covered, yet the touch still gets through. This is how Apple solves it on its own cases, and leather makers now do the same. Cleaner in the hand, but an additional component.
If you buy a case where the surface simply sits under leather, you have lost the function. That is worth checking before you buy, and you usually cannot tell from the product photos. Which of the two routes we take is something we decide once the dimensions are settled.
Why there will be few real leather cases on 18 September
A silicone case comes out of a single mould. Once the measurements are known, the road to a finished case takes days.
A stitched leather case needs more: a pattern, a cut piece, a seam, and a sample somebody has held in their hands and tried on a real device. There is always one round in which something does not fit and gets changed. Between reliable measurements and stock on the shelf, weeks pass, not days.
That is why the shelves on launch day mostly hold cases that fall out of one tool. And that is why we would rather tell you when we can deliver than promise something for 18 September that we would have to take back.
What fits from us once the dimensions are known
- KINGSTON – full-grain leather sleeve with a thumb notch. The device is taken out to be used.
- KIRKBY – sleeve with a charging cable opening and a card slot.
- CHESTER – hard case, polycarbonate wrapped in leather, stays on the device. The older sizes are on sale right now.
All iPhone cases in leather and wool felt · iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max – the same device class, in stock now.
As soon as the dimensions are confirmed, this is where the size for the iPhone 18 Pro will be stated. We will add it the day we know it.
And the other models?
iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and the iPhone Air are expected in spring 2027. For cases that means: if you own a 17 today and do not move to a Pro in September, you are not buying a new size this year.
A foldable iPhone is also rumoured for September 2026, under changing names. For cases a folding device is a subject of its own – two backs, a hinge, and a completely different thickness closed than open. A standard pattern does not help there.
In short
- 9 September announcement, 11 September pre-order, 18 September shipping
- September brings Pro and Pro Max only, the rest follows in spring 2027
- what decides a case: outer dimensions, height of the camera plateau, Camera Control
- everything except the dates is a rumour, including the display sizes
- we will add the dimensions as soon as they are reliable
