No, Sunny and Trixie are not new products in the Pack & Smooch range. The two elderly rough-haired dachshunds, who belong to the family and were there today for a change, stole our mobile phone cases, laptop bags and accessories a little bit of the show when we recently invited to a press breakfast in our Hamburg headquarters. Over tasty canapés and freshly brewed coffee, we took journalists on a tour of our production facility - followed at every turn by our two animal part-time residents.
At the beginning we told our curious guests how we became what we are: It all started about 7 years ago with a roll of wool felt for 700 Euro. With stencil and rotary cutter we cut the parts for our first laptop bag on the home floor. The sewing machine we borrowed from our mother rattled tirelessly. Our first product went beyond the online marketplace Etsy into the world. Since then, Pack & Smooch has stood for sophisticated craftsmanship, exquisite materials and functional aesthetics.
Enthusiasm for our high-quality, vegetable-tanned natural leather at our press breakfast
Today, half a dozen wool felt rolls and layers of leather are waiting to be processed in our premises in an old Hamburg chocolate factory. The representatives of the writing guild were enthusiastic about our high-quality, vegetable tanned natural leathers and were able to get a taste of them. They were particularly impressed by our new "Demeter leather" - matt-finished light brown animal skin, which comes from particularly happy cattle during their lifetime.
What we have not lost in all these years: The fun of our work and the resulting joy of innovation. We are not externally financed, do not get any pressure from outside and thus keep our heads free for creativity in order to further develop products and materials or to rethink: If we have so far purchased our exquisite raw wool from Australia, traded on the wool exchange in South Africa and processed in Germany, we also want to establish our own wool felt creation in the future.
Journalists curiously looked over the shoulder of our employees
On a tour of our workshop, our journalist guests strolled past oversized cutting tables and delicate sewing and embossing machines. Here and there they looked over the shoulder of our employees during individual production processes. For example, when inserting the push buttons into our Corriedale xs accessory and cable bag, whose ultra-flat magnetic fasteners are subjected to a quality check.
One of the media representatives, himself a passionate and professional camera user, was impressed by the high quality of our universal camera strap Wiltshire, which as a lightweight can easily carry more than two kilograms of weight. He was taken with the ergonomically shaped carrying strap made of nappa leather. And I also had an innovative idea ready, which we would like to continue spinning: Reinforcing the leather strap with a nylon or metal core - as additional anti-theft protection.
Our guests received the Keswick with individual character exclusively at our press breakfast
As a farewell gift, every journalist was given the opportunity to give our Keswick business card case a personal touch: With your own desired initials in silver/gold or as blind embossing, which we burned into the leather with heat and proper emphasis with our embossing machine. Our new feature enables a total of eight characters in upper and lower case, including punctuation - on the Keswick and on the Kirkby and Chester mobile phone cover.
The rough hair dachshunds Sunny and Trixie were tired of public relations after two hours at our press breakfast 2018, they settled on the workshop floor.
